Coastal Carolina baseball surprised the NCAA baseball nation in 2016 when they defeated several top ranked baseball teams, including University of Arizona in the Championship Series, to win the school’s first ever National Championship.

Led by pitcher Andrew Beckwith, and strong starts from Alex Cunningham and Mike Morrison, and unbelievable relief pitching from Bobby Holmes.  The offense played unselfish “small” ball when it needed to, G.K. Young’s monster home run shot in the final game proved to be the winning edge.

Not to be out done, Coastal Carolina baseball defense shined.  The most important play was LF Anthony Marks tracking down and perfect play of a wall carom shot that kept Arizona from tying the score.  3B Zach Remillard’s long run and sliding catch of a foul ball was also a big highlight.

Coastal Carolina baseball is blessed to have Gary Gilmore as their Head Coach.  His dream was to take Coastal Carolina baseball to Omaha and that dream was fulfilled June 30, 2016.
